Summary: Dawn’s wish to Halfrek is quite different from canon and may wind up being the best gift Buffy receives for her birthday, even if it is late in the receiving.
Setting: S6 and begins to go AU at “Older and Far Away” (written by Drew Z. Greenberg). I am using a tiny bit of dialogue from that episode in the beginning of the story before it goes a very different direction. Hints of events in episodes through “Normal Again” and then completely AU. Very tiny bit of dialogue from “Hell’s Bells” by Rebecca Rand Kirshner and “Normal Again” by Diego Gutierrez appear in this story for episode set-up purposes.
A/N: This seasonal_spuffy on LJ theme was “heart vs. head” and/or “distance.” It is hard to write Spike without the “heart vs. head” entering in, so I think this will qualify.
The title was inspired by the song “A Thousand Kisses Deep” by Leonard Cohen. The lyrics are posted at end of story, but it’s not necessary that you read or hear it. If you wish to hear it (vid isn’t much, but sound is great) here is a link:

Hello all,
What a year it's been. All I can seem to think to say is, 'Wow'. Some of these most extraordinary things have happened and I'm not even sure where to begin. It's all happened so fast and the only thing I've realized is how out of touch with things I've become.
Oh, not that I'm old and it's one of those generational gap things, not at all. I'm just...I'm not sure how I can explain it. People in the world today are so different in their views, they seem to think that everything happening is new or some how unique. Bad guys getting away with the loot, politicians acting like children, world gone mad, freedoms being experienced for the very first time, it's all so much to take in.
It's little wonder we're starting to question, well, everything. The saying goes, I think, 'these are the times that try men's souls'. I don't know about men's, but mine is sure feeling a little used. See, I made a little joke. It's what some people do when they're nervous and not quite sure what to say. Guess it just helps to have someone to say it to.
Do you need someone to talk to? I've got a free ear and some cheese cake.

No, seriously, this is a comm where, for the month of December, you work on those fanfics that have been sitting on ff.net, or your desktop (or wherever) for eons that still need to be finished, that you keep meaning to get to, but never have due to writers block, life, etc.
Or, if you have signed up for one of those nifty prompt tables, and never got around to doing anything with them...
Then December is the month to get these fics done :D
So stop by, introduce yourself, pledge to breathe new life into those dusty old unfinished fics :D |

First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone for your wonderful thoughts, energy, and prayers. My headaches do seem to be a bit better. Still an every day occurrence, but at least they aren't ALL day, or as bad as they were. So perhaps they are on the way to resolving.
Second, the MRI. I have reviewed the films myself, and there are no signs of growths, tumors, or anything worrying. It did show plenty of deep sinus inflammation, which is likely what has been causing my headaches. (Likely in concert with stress.) We already knew that my frontal sinuses are very abnormally small, but they are there.
Fixability (hey! I made a new word!) is questionable. We have already tried nasal steroids, allergy medicine, and anti-inflammatories. I did allergy shots years ago, which helped my asthma, but did nothing for my sinuses. I've done sinuses washes to clean them out. I've also tried just leaving them alone. I really don't want to start on the path of pain meds. Nor do I really want to contemplate surgery. The only thing that seemed to have helped was a short course of oral steroids I took a while back for bronchitis. It got rid of my headaches for a brief period. But that certainly isn't a long term solution.
So it seems that we are left with a watch and wait scenario. Particularly since they seem to be getting somewhat better.
